20% Time
Google’s 20% Time, also called Independent Developer Projects, is the time given to Google’s engineers one time a week to work on projects that don’t necessarily have to deal with their normal job. They use 20% of their work time on projects that catch their interests and are important to them. They are allowed to work on just about anything that they want to know more about or trying to finish and are paid for doing what they enjoy. Whether they are trying to develop something new or just fixing something that is broken. The catch is that they have to share what they are working on to whoever is their boss either showing their work or explaining it. (You can find out more about Google’s 20% Time at: Google “20 percent time” in action, Why You Should have your own 20% tme., and 20% Time’s Coming Alive)
I am researching about computers during my 20% Time because in the future I may be required to know all about computers when it comes up and my fellow employees need my help. What I am trying to find out is what is inside a computer, the different parts that a computer consist of and where they should go inside. which places do you plug in certain chords in the back, and how to set up everything, the basic stuff. What I am still learning and researching about is how to fix a computer because I am responsible for that and should not be relying on others. Plus you never know when someone might need that kind of expertise and I wouldn’t want to let them down viewing me differently from an actual man.
